The LOCSS team has been working with our partner in Nepal to include a new lake into our project.

We are working with the Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (NDHM) in an effort to expand our network of study lakes in the country. Recently, NDHM got permission for us to include a new lake in the project, Rara Lake in northwestern Nepal.

Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal, with a total area of about 2600 acres. It is located in Rara National Park at an elevation of about 9800 feet. It's maximum depth of about 550 feet make it the deepest lake in the country as well. Lake levels in the lake have been monitored for many years, and NDHM recently shared some historical lake data and has granted us permission to share it on our website and use it, along with satellite data, as part of the LOCSS project. All lake height data for the lake can be found on our website, and we will updated it regularly as we

We are very thankful for our partners at the Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, and are excited to begin studying Rara Lake.
