North Carolina

Jones Lake in Bladen County, North Carolina.
We are monitoring and studying 17 lakes in North Carolina.

Our North Carolina study lakes are primarily located in the coastal plain, and encompass many lakes which are considered "Carolina Bays." These shallow natural lakes serve as both important natural preserves and family-friendly destinations for swimming and vacation. Our partner agencies include: Catawba College Center for the Environment, North Carolina Museum of Natural Science - Prairie Ridge Ecostation, North Carolina State Parks, US Forest Service - Croatan National Forest, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
