1000 Citizen Scientists

Singletary Lake, Bladen County, NC
LOCSS Recently Received a Measurement From Our 1,000th Citizen Scientist

On October 20, 2019, we received a text message from our 1,000th citizen scientist! The message came in at 10:02 am for Singletary Lake, in Singletary Lake State Park in Bladen County, North Carolina.

Singletary Lake is one of a number of Carolina Bay lakes that we are studying in eastern North Carolina. It is about 570 acres in size, and is a maximum of 11.8 feet deep, making it one of the deepest carolina bay lakes. We have been monitoring the lake level here since April 2017, and have seen a difference of 1.36 feet between its lowest and highest levels.

We are extremely grateful to the 1,000+ citizen scientists who have helped us along the way since LOCSS began 2017. Without you all, we could not even begin to study lakes on the scale we are. Thank You!
